WELCOMEWelcome to CLOSE KNIT, the creative portfolio-dumping ground-whatsit-thingy of a struggling Web Design student just tryin' to make it in the big wide world. Or something. DRIVER PICKS THE MUSICWell hello there. My name is Ris. You may know me better as

brownstudies, which is my main domain here on lj. I'm 24, female, and an enthusiast student of Web Design at the University of the West of England, Bristol. I say enthusiastic; what I probably mean is "manic".
It's a pretty nerdcore degree course; we generally sit around all day playing with java compilers and unix systems, compulsively pushing our glasses up the bridge of our noses and having heated debates about PCs Vs Macs. I'm a poetic soul, though, and I long for more creativity *stares wistfully into the middle distance* The solution seemed to be to teach myself about the ways of graphic design; something I know very little about, despite an innate need to make things look pretty. Using only a couple of old textbooks and the divine guidance of other amateur designers, this here journal will provide testament to my ~~non~~ semi-success as something MORE than a nerdy programmer.
Also it's quite good for when I'm just a bit bored, like.

closeknit is first and foremost, a learning zone; graphics will often appear unfinished, lame ideas will be shared and asked advice on, and regrettable colour schemes occasionally displayed. This is not a graphics journal. If you find something you like you are more than welcome to use it (comment and credit applies), but please don't friend if you;re expecting post upon post of shiny, polished icons - you will be severely disappointed. Having said that, I may occasionally make request posts, and if you like my style or graphic it's entirely okay to ask for requests yourself. Just, you know... don't expect work the likes of

ohfreckle or anything, because that's not what this journal is about.
